"Please help, I have no idea how much things cost"

This day is a real eye opener for students as they find out how much it really costs to live.  It helps them realise that they have to make the financial choices in the future.

The workshops help the students identify the different directions that they can go in once leaving school.  The day is divided into 3 modules:

  • 'Money Matters' - focuses on the income, taxation, essential vs. non essential expenditure, needs vs. wants, savings, investments, debt, credit cards. Students realise that there is not a lot left in the pot at the end of the month.
  • 'Best Buy'- this teaches the students the 8 steps to negotiation in order to get themselves a good deal.
  • 'The Flatshare' - Understanding the real costs involved in leaving home.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
By identifying long term goals and aspirations, students realise that their dreams may be very different from reality, but by hard work now and therefore potentially good jobs int he future they may become reachable goals.

This day shows the real cost of living. It identifies the skills needed in starting up and running businesses are also critical in running and choosing a successful life.

The financial choices - Uni/College vs. Work, Living at Home vs. Moving Out, Debit and Credit Cards, Rent vs. Buy, Debt Priority, The Cost of Living - mobile, travel, Tax & NI, food and drink, socializing and a living wage.

Head of Careers:

“The overall content of your Personal Finance workshop was excellent, I thoroughly enjoyed the session that I sat in on. The amount of material covered was very good, well suited, and the pace was good. The information given was very relevant and the general organisation was excellent. The Trainer’s delivery was superb! There were some ‘characters’ in the group – very well dealt with. A very interesting time”
