WINNERS GET A TOUR OF THE CITY

PROMISING PERFORMERS COMPETITION SUPPORTED BY SECURITIES & INVESTMENT INSTITUTE

The SII is keen to promote to schools the benefits of investment and the securities industry and in November got the opportunity to host a day in the City for six students in conjunction with careers company, Inside Knowledge.

These ‘Promising Performers’ demonstrated an aptitude for a career in investment during 2007 when Inside Knowledge took industry practitioners into schools nationwide, explaining what careers in industrial sectors look like from the inside.

The six were treated to a City tour by Blue Badge guide, Frank Gelli, including visits to the Bank of England, the London Metal Exchange and the Royal Exchange – now a market dedicated to expensive jewellery, handbags and latté!

After a lunch at the Institute, Christopher Jones-Warner talked about the Stock Exchange and how to construct an investment portfolio.

Janey Cecil, founder and Chief  Executive of Inside Knowledge said: “Our students were the pick of the year and learnt a lot from the experience”, with one winner saying “I think this competition is a brilliant idea, most importantly because it gives people an idea of how the city operates and what it is about, all in the space of one day. It goes without saying, I had an excellent time”.

The winners for 2007 Competition were:

Patrick Berry - Bradfield College
Ben Gravell - St John’s School Leatherhead
Anna Lunson - Orleans Park School
Henry Manson - Eton College
Lucy Newman - Royal Masonic School
Chime Ukaigwe - St Angela’s Ursuline Convent School
